The Courtyard Theatre is a temporary 1,048 seat thrust stage theatre building in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. It has been built to host performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company whilst the company's main building is closed for redevelopment, and is used as a 'test bed' for the new design of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, the company's main theatre. Its foyer reuses the buildings of the former The Other Place theatre.
It was designed by Ian Ritchie Architects and opened in July 2006. Productions hosted here include the 2007 revival of This England: The Histories and the 2008 Hamlet and Love's Labours Lost starring David Tennant. It is due to close and be demolished in 2010, when work on the RST is completed. |
